Craft — Brand Strategy

Positioning that survives a sales meeting.

Strategy is not a deck of adjectives. It is a set of decisions about who you are for, what you refuse to do, and the one sentence a customer repeats to a colleague.

The problem

Why this usually goes wrong.

Most brands do not have a positioning problem. They have a decision problem: nobody has been willing to rule anything out, so the messaging tries to appeal to everyone and lands on no one.

We start with the uncomfortable questions. Who are we deliberately not for? What are we willing to be worse at? What would a customer lose if we disappeared tomorrow? The answers become the constraints that make every later creative decision faster.

What's included

Everything in the engagement.

No line items discovered halfway through. This is the scope, written down before we start.

01

Market & category audit

Where the category is crowded, where the language is identical, and the gap nobody is standing in.

02

Customer & sales interviews

We talk to your customers and your sales team. The gap between those two stories is usually the strategy.

03

Positioning statement

One page. Who it is for, what it replaces, why it wins, what it costs you to say it.

04

Brand architecture

How sub-brands, products and service lines relate — and which ones should not exist.

05

Messaging framework

Proof points and objection handling by audience, so sales and marketing finally say the same thing.

06

Tone of voice

Written rules with real before-and-after examples, not three adjectives on a slide.

What you get

Deliverables, itemised.

  • Research findings and interview synthesis
  • Competitive language map
  • Positioning statement and rationale
  • Brand architecture diagram
  • Messaging framework by audience
  • Tone of voice guide with worked examples
  • Rollout plan for internal teams
How it runs

Four phases, dated.

01

Immerse

We read what you have, sit in on sales calls and interview customers who bought — and prospects who did not.

02

Map

Competitive language analysis. We show you, verbatim, how identical everyone in your category sounds.

03

Decide

A working session where we make the exclusions. This is the part most engagements skip and later regret.

04

Codify

Positioning, architecture, messaging and voice written down clearly enough that a new hire can use it.

Questions

Answered before you ask.

How is this different from a marketing plan?
A marketing plan says what you will do next quarter. Strategy says what is true about your business regardless of the quarter. We do the second, then the first becomes much easier to write.
Do we need strategy if we already have a logo?
Often yes — that is the most common order of events and the reason many identities get redesigned within three years. A logo built without positioning is decoration. We can work with your existing identity rather than replace it.
Who needs to be involved from our side?
A founder or the person who can say no, plus whoever owns sales. Six to eight hours of their time across the engagement, concentrated in two working sessions.
What if the research contradicts what leadership believes?
Then we show you the transcripts and you decide. We would rather hand you an inconvenient finding than a comfortable one you paid for.
